Technorati Linking
Figgins (Not Matsui) to the M’s
As of late, the rumor circuit has had the Mariners linked to Jason Bay, John Lackey and Rich Harden…looks like they have pulled the trigger finally, signing their first big-namer of the off-season in Chone Figgins.

funniest name in baseball (citation needed)
Last season, Figgins batted .298 with a .395 OBP, swiped 42 bags, drove in 54 RBIs and led the AL with his 101 walks. Chone has pretty solid career numbers…batting .291 overall with a .363 on-base percentage and 280 stolen bases. Looks like the 4-yr / $36mil contract was spent wisely…he and Ichi should make some noise at the top of the order.
Fox, Miles to Oaktown
ESPN is reporting that the Cubs have dealt Aaron Miles and Jake Fox to the A’s for right-handed pitcher Jeff Gray and a pair of minor-leaguers. Fox’s bat will be missed…he knocked out 11 (with more ribbies than Milton) in very limited playing time in Wrigleyville. With Lee and Rami in Chicago, he didn’t stand [...]
MAKE THIS HAPPEN, HENDRY
Hot off the presses…it is a strong possibility that the Cubs and Rays might do a little switcheroo From Joel Sherman at the NY Post: I hear that a trade of Tampa Bay’s Pat Burrell for the Cubs’ Milton Bradley is still a strong possibility. Burrell is due $9 million next year while Bradley has [...]
Free Agent Gem: Marlon Byrd
In 2007, the Rangers presented Marlon Byrd the Harold McKinney Good Guy Award. In stark contrast, 2009 saw Milton Bradley drive in a dismal 40 runs, only to hang up his cleats September 20 after getting suspended by GM Jim Hendry. Today it was announced that the Cubs did not offer arbitration to Rich Harden or Kevin Gregg, [...]
Traded for Bats…
I was trolling around the comments section of a story on cubs.com and came across this entry… Good stuff. And spot-on. It reminded me of the story of John Odom…the minor leaguer who was, honest to god, traded for 10 bats. Long story short, Odom was a juvenile delinquent with an assault on his record. [...]
Mesa /vs/ Sarasota
Even though the Cubs have been tearing up the attendance records in the Cactus League for years, there are some serious talks in the works about ditching Mesa (and the curiously named HoHoKam Park, pictured above) for the Grapefruit League. The Ricketts family is entertaining offers…shopping for a new stadium and improved facilities for spring [...]
Matsui to Seattle: A Case Study
With the Yanks not likely to bring World Series MVP Hideki Matsui back in 2010, it remains to be seen who will sign the 36 year old slugger. Since his knees are nearly shot, it is pretty much out of the question for Godzilla to get any real looks in the NL. Hear me out…this is [...]
Welcome To Me
Just a test while I work to figure this out. Will have photos and more content up as the evening progresses. Note: Can’t ever go wrong with an Old Style.
About Damn Time
Addition by subtraction? I just logged onto cubs.com only to find some great news. The god-awful rooftop Budweiser ad on Sheffield is getting blocked by some billboards. Don’t get me wrong; I’m the last person who wants The Friendly Confines looking like a AA ballpark…I just do not like Budweiser. Even if Anheuser Busch buys [...]
